Description
The cattle egret is a member of the heron family. It is native to Africa and Asia and reached the United States in 1941. Because their feathers accumulate contaminant residue, researches use them to monitor the environment. This non-captive cattle egret was photographed in the rookery at Flamingo Gardens and Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary(http://www.flamingogardens.org/).
