Birth of a Monarch

February 1st, 2015

The green chrysalis in my garden had turned very dark and I could see the beautiful wings through the crystalline chrysalis. I knew from my internet research that it would be minutes before the butterfly emerged. Observing and documenting the "birth" of a monarch butterfly was a heart song moment for me.

"How does one become a butterfly", she asked. "You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar." ~Trina Paulas

Jetty Tower

I love to photograph the colorful lifeguard huts of South Beach. Each block has a tower with its own unique art deco design. After hurricane Andrew, Architect William Lane designed and built the first towers. They have become an iconic symbol of South Beach.

Little Sipper

The hummingbird is one of my favorites. They are tiny but mighty. Did you know that some migrate 500 miles non-stop over the Gulf of Mexico? They have the largest brain for body size of all birds and can remember every flower they've sipped and how long it will take the flower's nectar to replenish. They're such a joy to watch!
